Nangang, Matsu, a must-visit location for war history tours, is essential for anyone wishing to deeply experience Matsu's wartime atmosphere. Located on Erlie Village's Iron Plate shore, these isolated rock outcrops convey a strong battlefield ambiance. Due to the strategic and easily observable terrain, these areas were historically established as military strongholds, guarded day and night by elite amphibious frogman units. For defense purposes, these rocks were hollowed out, topped with cement shelters painted with camouflage, covered with green protective nets, and even surrounded with shards of glass and steel rods along the cliffs to prevent stealth attacks. Inside the fortress, under solid concrete paths, are tunnels carved into the tough granite. Clear traces of chiseling mark the tunnel walls, with underground stone rooms, firing positions, artillery stands, rooms, bathrooms, and kitchens arranged orderly despite the small size. Even military dogs were stationed here to protect this remote fortress, making it unique in its rank among military dogs in the area at that time. Upon reaching the top of the tunnels, you could fully survey the sea. Today, free of conflict, these small rocks, once a key maritime defense fortress, reflect the spirit of a "fierce fortress on the sea."
