Located by the banks of Aohu River, the Kaohsiung Film Archive was established in 2001. The space is small yet elegant, and ticketed films are regularly screened indoors. The archive provides various projection equipment, film collections, artistic videos, and documentaries, making it Kaohsiung's first socio-educational unit dedicated to promoting film culture. Adjacent to the Aohu River, the building is surrounded by Kaohsiung Film Festival's mascot—the fiery film reel figure—drawing numerous film enthusiasts. At night, the soft blue-violet lights of the building harmonize with the shimmering ripples of Aohu River. When a gentle breeze passes, lovers strolling quietly on the film archive's plaza express the romantic aura of Aohu. The Kaohsiung Film Archive, located on the western bank of Aohu River, operates with the concept of "National Cinema." It has courageously resisted political interference, screening the Uyghur exile leader Rebiya Kadeer's documentary "Love's Ten Conditions," which attracted attention from all sectors. Exhibitions within the archive display themes such as "Old Theaters of Kaohsiung," "Movies of Kaohsiung," and "Southern Filmmakers," revealing film culture in Kaohsiung's historical contexts. Looking forward, the archive aims to redefine Kaohsiung's new mission in the future development of cinema.
