Songshan Station is one of the few oldest train stations in Taiwan. From the time the first railway from Keelung to Hsinchu was built during the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, Songshan had already been an elementary ticket office. The development of the Songshan area was very early, originally a settlement of the Kavalan plains tribe, Maoli Jihou tribe. The old name of the place was "Dajianxi Kou Street." In the 13th year of Guangxu (1887), the original tickets used were replaced by dragon horse stamps.
During the Japanese rule, in the 9th year of Taisho, Dajianxi Kou Street was renamed as Songshan Village of Qixing District, Taipei Prefecture, and the "Xikou Station" was also renamed as "Songshan Station."
