This wetland-grassland ecological zone, located along the Hukou Village section of Kouhu Township in Yunlin County, was originally a Taiwan Sugar Corporation farm. After Typhoon Wayne struck in 1986, seawater backflow rendered the vast sugar-cane fields unfit for cultivation. Left fallow for years, the land—tempered by time and harsh conditions—has become a wild-plant paradise. With no artificial landscaping or planting, and integrated into the local government’s planned wetland recreation area, it has taken on a distinctive rural character of its own.
