Zhenhai Park, located next to Zhenhai Temple in Donggang Township, is a park that combines woods, grassland, beach, and ocean. In the early days of Zhenhai Temple’s construction (around 1987), the area now known as Zhenhai Park was a barren beach where no visitor would linger under the blazing sun. Over more than a decade, a group of volunteers from Zhenhai Temple quietly contributed both money and effort, and only then did the lush shade of today emerge. With additional government funding in 1995, Zhenhai Park was officially established. Because the park is situated in the birthplace of Donggang’s Royal Boat Ceremony—a tradition of over a century—Zhenhai Park serves as the site for the two major Taoist rituals, “Inviting the Water” and “Sending Off the Royal Boat,” held during the triennial Peace Festival (commonly called the Royal Boat Ceremony) organized by Donglong Temple in Donggang on the lunar ninth month of every Chou, Chen, Wei, and Xu (Ox, Dragon, Ram, Dog) year.
