Datong Mountain, with an elevation of 237 meters, is a hill on the southeastern ridge of Dadong Mountain. It is located directly north of Shanjia Station and is known as the "back garden" of the Shulin District. The hiking trail to Datong Mountain consists of stairs, primitive trails, and cement trails, forming three main routes that converge at Qinglong Ridge. Two of the trailheads are not far from Shulin Station and Shanjia Station, making it accessible by Taiwan Railways Administration. The trail is lined with dense foliage, and the gentle slopes make for a comfortable hike. The observation platform at the summit offers a panoramic view of the Greater Taipei area.
The observation platform on Datong Mountain is equipped with pavilions and offers a stunning view. On clear days, one can see the skyline of Greater Taipei and the Keelung Mountains in Ruifang. The high-speed rail trains can be seen speeding through the city like dragons. As the sun sets, it's a great place to rest and enjoy the cool breeze and the sight of the city lights turning on one by one.
Datong Mountain is also known as Jiucha Mountain and Gouchi Mountain. Archaeologists have discovered many Neolithic pottery and stone tools on the mountain, leading to the designation of the Gouchi Mountain archaeological site. On the mountain's slope, there are temples like Nanliao FuDe Gong, Haiming Zen Temple, and Wangmu Temple where hikers can take a break. FuDe Gong even has a stone slide and a cold spring pool that can be visited.
