Lishih Ancient House in Luzhou

2017-07-04
Luzhou Li Residence is vast and well-preserved, covering more than 1,200 ping, displaying the grandeur of local gentry, as well as the thick and ancient characteristics of a rural house, and is a typical large house of an influential traditional family. This ancient residence is the former home of Li Youbang, a famous anti-Japanese war general in Taiwan. Locals call it "Li Zucuo", and today it is a third-grade cultural heritage site. This cultural heritage has a history of more than 100 years (established in 1857 - 2012, a total of 155 years), built by the second-generation ancestor Li Qingshui. In the 29th year of the Guangxu era of the Qing Dynasty, the seven branches of the Li family jointly invested in the reconstruction. It is one of the more beautiful and impressive quadrangle courtyards in Taiwan, and the current layout, configuration, form, and appearance after the restoration. It has been designated as a third-grade cultural heritage, and in 2006, it was officially opened to the public as the "Li Family Ancient Residence - Li Youbang General Memorial Museum." After the First Sino-Japanese War, the Li family did not lose heart, but instead decided to expand their ancestral home, expressing the family's origin and the profound cultural roots of Chinese culture through architectural form. It took nearly 9 years to build the ancient residence and the surrounding areas, making it a landmark in Lu Zhou at that time. In addition to the ancient and elegant buildings, it also retains the old eight-legged antique bed, dressing table, stone mill, and stove, which look just like they did a hundred years ago, recording the most vivid historical past of Taiwan.
