The Da Hu Park lake, also known as the Egret Lake due to the large number of egrets, is located at Section 5 of Cheng Gong Road, Nei Hu District. It is adjacent to the Egret Mountain and faces the Wuzhi Mountain, Zhongyong Mountain, etc. The park covers an area of about 13 hectares. It was built in 1979 in the style of Chinese gardens. The lake area is about 10 hectares and it is a regional park. The park is nestled against the mountain and beside the water, with winding waterbanks and shimmering waters. The view is broad, and the arched bridge seems like a rainbow hanging down. When spring mist covers the mountain, the new willows brush the water, and the distant misty shadows are all within sight. Taking a break in the pavilion, it is suitable for viewing and resting. The ever-changing clouds and waters make one's heart feel relaxed and the eyes feel refreshed. The scenery is beautiful. In summer and autumn, the misty rain makes it look like a painting. In May 2012, it was featured in the French newspaper Le Monde.
However, the Da Hu Park has existed for more than 30 years, and there are many issues. Therefore, in 2008, the park department began to plan and design the environmental improvement project for Da Hu Park, hoping to restore its original beauty.
To reduce the impact on citizens' recreation, the "Da Hu Park Environmental Improvement Project" was divided into two phases. The first phase included a green lawn plaza that could provide morning and evening exercise for citizens with shade from large trees, greatly enhancing the quality of the activity space. The ecological floating islands, which enriched the ecosystem of Da Hu, have become habitats for birds to feed and nest. It also provides a good environment for fish to spawn, feed, and hide. It has also attracted many aquatic insects, and it is common to see egrets and ducks living there. The retaining wall on the western side of the lake affected the lake view. After using the ecological construction method with wooden pile banks, the previously rigid concrete wall is now covered with greenery. The steps connecting the various pools in the lake often caused obstacles for baby strollers, wheelchairs, and the elderly when they were touring the park. After the renovation of the barrier-free path, it is now accessible without any difficulty. The dense trees made the park dark and also caused mosquitoes and pests, and the grass could not grow. After appropriate pruning and thinning, sunlight filtered through the leaves, and the green grass under the trees was a beautiful sight of a sunny green area. The popular fishing activities were also planned with comfortable wooden fishing platforms, which have comfortable wooden seats and night lighting, allowing people to enjoy fishing even at night.
The second phase of the project mainly focused on the swimming pool construction. The original swimming pool with structural problems was rebuilt. After the improvement, the Da Hu swimming pool will become a living water center in line with the concept of green buildings. The building's exterior uses a soil-covered landscape architecture, which not only avoids creating a visual burden due to its large volume but also integrates well with the beautiful scenery of Da Hu Park, and it can also reduce the radiation heat, achieving environmental protection and energy saving. The roof is designed as a viewing platform, allowing you to enjoy the view while walking around the park, and you will naturally have a panoramic view of the lake scenery. In addition, by fully considering the local microclimate, such as sunlight and wind, it cleverly uses design elements such as shading lattices, window forms, and orientations, making the indoor swimming pool well-lit and comfortable in temperature, and the annoying chlorine smell will disappear. The famous 50-meter-long swimming pool will be retained, and the surrounding areas of the pool will be properly greened. After the improvement, it will be well integrated with the park scenery, and you will feel as if you are swimming in nature.
The first phase of the Da Hu Park Environmental Improvement Project was completed on August 18, 2011, and has been open to the public. The second phase of the swimming pool project started on February 20, 2012, and was completed in early 2014, presenting a new look to the public. We sincerely invite you to visit the park. In addition to escaping the hustle and bustle, enjoying the park scenery, walking along the willow-lined lakeside, appreciating the lake and mountain views, wandering through the cypress forest to absorb the essence of nature and enjoy the grassy fragrance, you can also engage in fishing, picnics, swimming, and other activities. If you combine it with the hiking activities in the nearby mountain areas, Da Hu Park will be the best place for a half-day or full-day trip.
