Here he could chat with people, surrounded by noisy youngsters… Days passed, and one day Grandpa asked Eric: “Want to learn how to cook grass jelly?” Only then could the story go on. Grandpa insisted on the troublesome sweet-potato starch to set the jelly; the youngster practiced hard before the old man finally nodded that he could sell it. When they opened under the name “Yi Yin Grass Jelly,” Grandpa was still alive and would drop by now and then to “quality-check,” assuring old customers that he had taught the shop himself. The friendship between the young man and Grandpa became a local legend. Yi Yin also serves tofu pudding, cold drinks, and egg-cakes.
