In order to systematically preserve the old police artifacts that have been lost across the region due to their age, and to pass on police culture, the former Director-General Cheng Zhe instructed the special establishment of the Penghu Police Museum. This initiative integrates resources from within and outside the organization to conserve precious historical photos, old police equipment, uniforms, academic works, and to create a database of the bureau’s historical evolution and significant events. It showcases local特色, allowing the public to understand the connotation of police culture, increase their identification with the police, and enhance the museum’s outward marketing function. To highlight the特色of police artifacts, a suitable location was sought. With the Director’s persistent effort and the full cooperation of the County Tourism Bureau, the site was chosen next to Ma‑gong Port. The elegant former Japanese‑era Ma‑gong Water Police Officer Station, which carries historical and valuable police heritage, was selected as the museum’s location. It integrates into the community and connects with nearby historical resources such as the Japanese‑era post office, the gendarmerie, the Tianhou Temple (a Grade 1 historic site), the Ma‑gong Old City’s Shun Cheng Gate, and the Guanyin Pavilion, forming a belt‑shaped tourist route. Besides aligning with the county’s tourism development strategy, it also allows future generations to understand the history of the police, the development trajectory of Penghu, and the evolution of the island. The collected early police documents, historical sites, and various police artifacts are comprehensively planned, organized, and displayed, showcasing the items once used by the police. A tourist police station is also stationed to expand the effectiveness of tourist policing services. The current collection includes photographs from the 1940s to the 1980s, old police uniforms, various police accessories, hand‑cranked police telephone, old switchboard, hand‑cranked air‑raid alarm, typewriter, manual printing machine, handheld radiation detector, handcuffs, shackles, household registration data, and more, all proving the progress and inheritance of police history.
