Xinshan lies on a ridge extending southward from Youruo Mountain. Its summit is studded with bare rock and devoid of vegetation; from the top the view is vast and the ridge line majestic. The northeast face of the ridge is a sheer cliff, while the southwest slope drops at about 60°. The trail involves large elevation changes, so climbers must proceed with caution. At 499 m above sea level, the peak stands in striking contrast to Dream Lake. The mountain has the bearing of a great general; from the prominent crag on its summit one can gaze out over the northern sea.
Dream Lake sits at roughly 325 m. On winter afternoons mist often rises around it, lending the shore an ethereal, dream-like atmosphere. Couples frequently stroll here to nurture their love, and many newly-weds choose the spot for wedding photos, proof of the trail’s romantic charm and popularity. The lake draws not only people but also many small creatures that make it their home. Along the path beside the water, pavilions and benches offer rest, and visitors can sit on the broad flat boulders to quietly absorb the beauty of nature.
