At the age of 25, Hsieh-Chen Huang, who was working in Taipei, developed the aspiration to open a café after reading the book "The Song of the Sad Café." After spending 15 years in her career, at the age of 40, she fulfilled her dream by establishing 25x40 Art & Cultural Space on Zhongzheng Road in Chiayi City. The two numbers in the name originate from her age and the age at which her dream was realized. Stepping into 25x40 Art & Cultural Space, the traditional cypress wood house narrates its history of over 60 years. This was also the reason Hsieh-Chen decided to rent and renovate the house after she first saw it, and spent three months doing renovations. Its high ceiling with an open layout appears as if welcoming passersby to visit casually and spontaneously. The space exhibits and sells cultural and creative works on an irregular basis. Hsieh-Chen became passionate about this idea during her graduate studies, where she observed that many artists and crafters rarely had opportunities to display their works. Thus, she hoped to provide a platform for these artists to showcase their talents. In addition to selling physical products, Hsieh-Chen also independently organizes various cultural and artistic events, frequently inviting renowned figures to host lectures, workshops, and concerts in the space. Through these activities, she hopes to promote and stimulate artistic exchanges in Chiayi City. This house built with high-quality cypress wood from Alishan was previously connected to the adjacent building. The construction master mentioned that this premium wood was likely used by a former homeowner who possessed considerable authority or economic status. After years of transformation, this house, now freed from its past glory, has become the first open cultural and artistic space in Chiayi City after encountering Hsieh-Chen. It sincerely invites every individual who carries artistic dreams to share their beautiful aspirations. Recommended Dishes: Alishan Tea
