In recent years, two landmarks have become vital to transportation in Changhua: the Yuanlin Railway Station and the HSR Changhua Station. In terms of design scale and recognition, the HSR Changhua Station is especially noteworthy. The station was designed by architect Kris Yao; its overarching concept is “Golden-level Green Building,” reinforcing the spirit of local industry. The character for “field” (田) serves as the design motif, while flowers and sunlight form the signature elements of the station’s design, attempting to infuse the imagery of local flora into a modern, high-tech rail hub. Inside the station, floor-to-ceiling windows and interior landscaping create a stunning visual interplay with evening lighting and the building’s silhouette. In April 2016, the station received the “Popular Choice Award” in the Station category of the A+ Architecture Awards, hosted by Architizer in the United States, making it an essential landmark for Tianzhong.
