To commemorate Dr. Sun Yat-sen's revolutionary deeds and character, and to promote his ideological teachings, the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, designed by architect Wang Dahong, was completed in 1972. In addition to serving as a place for people from around the world to pay homage to Dr. Sun, it also functions as a center for cultural and artistic education, leisure, and academic research.
The magnificent and solemn architectural structure is situated within Sun Yat-sen Park, a lush and verdant space dotted with trees and flowers, and has become a brilliant beacon in Taipei's East District. This site also brings a new face to domestic culture and the arts, as it hosts various artistic activities such as literary corridors, cultural exhibitions, and youth creative programs. In addition, there is excellent indoor performance space suitable for theatrical events, including renowned awards like the Golden Horse Awards and the Golden Bell Awards, which have been held here.
In the early mornings, one can find elderly gentlemen and ladies here practicing tai chi and dancing traditional folk dances. Colorful kites frequently drift through the sky, embellishing Taipei's skyline. During weekends, the expansive plaza becomes a favorite spot for families to enjoy frisbee-throwing, rollerblading, and strolling for leisure.
