If you ask the people of Kinmen about the best place to watch the sunset, the Cihu Lake will surely be their top choice! Located in the Jinning Township, the Cidi (Cihu) was built in 1969 for strategic reasons. The sea lies outside the dike, while the area inside the dike is now the Cihu Lake. Later, an observation platform was added, making the beautiful scenery of Cihu Lake more popular among visiting tourists. In the evening, the orange-red sunset slowly descends from the horizon, with the colorful clouds reflecting on the distant view of Xiamen across the sea, and also spreading over the former "track barriers" used for preventing landings, creating a unique scenery of Cihu Lake. Every year from October to March, migratory birds that come to Kinmen for winter gather around Cihu Lake, especially the cormorants, with nearly three to four thousand birds flying back to their nests in a V-formation, creating a spectacular scene that has earned many cheers for Kinmen!
