Sip a freshly brewed cup of high-mountain tea from hillside gardens right in the city.
Ding Shi Tea House is a brand born from the bond between second-generation tea farmer Chung Ming-chih—who returned to his hometown—and a one-of-a-kind shepherd dog named Ding Ding.
Unlike the typical Taiwanese tea shop, it presents itself as a café, serving cup-by-cup infusions to help young drinkers read the heart of Taiwanese tea without any distance.
After returning to take over the family tea business, Chung Ming-chih was startled to find how few young people buy loose-leaf tea. Accustomed to the convenience and low price of hand-shaken drinks, the younger generation feels distant from traditional Taiwanese tea: they neither understand its culture and meaning nor dare step into a tea store to learn.
How to give Taiwanese tea and young people a chance to meet became the very reason we founded Ding Shi Tea House.
So we created a new way to drink tea: a comfortable, pressure-free space where guests pick a cozy seat, order any tea from the menu, and, once the leaves are infused and served, choose to:
- savor the cup slowly,
- pair it with a novel from the shelf, or
- sit at the bar and chat with the owner about growing and crafting tea, listening to stories of leaf and history—gaining a fresher, deeper understanding of tea.
Fortunate to live in one of Taiwan’s famous tea regions, we hope the teahouse gives young friends still unfamiliar with Taiwanese tea a first taste, gradually making a daily cup of tea part of their lives.
