Shuangkou Coastal Area is only about 6 kilometers from Xiamen, the beach closest to Xiamen Island in the Kinmen Islands. It was once the place where Shuangkou villagers crossed to Xiamen by ferry. Since 1949 AD, it has become a key frontline coastal defense location. To prevent enemy attacks, battle "trenches" in a circular pattern around the village and "railway barbed wire fortifications" stretching for several kilometers along the tidal line were constructed, quite spectacular. Because of its open view, Shuangkou Beach is an ideal place for watching sunsets and viewing the night scenery of Xiamen. With its flat and vast beach, it is annually utilized as the venue for the Xiamen-Kinmen Swimming Match and the Lieyu Taro Festival, making it the best site for hosting large-scale events in Little Kinmen.
