Winter River Water Park

2024-04-11
(Announcement by the Yilan County Government: Starting from May 1, 2009, the Dongshan River Water Park will not charge for cleaning fees, except for large events that will have separate entrance fees, and only charge for parking fees)

Dongshan River is the fifth largest river in Yilan, flowing through Luodong, Dongshan, and Wujiang towns. In the 24-kilometer Dongshan River basin, it has been planned as a riverside recreation area with multiple functions such as sports, recreation, and leisure. The river area is divided into three sections: upper, middle, and lower, each with different recreational features, aiming to become a "Outdoor Water Museum."

The Water Park is the most important recreational spot in the Dongshan River. It aims to reconstruct the natural ethics between people and water, imitating natural landscapes and incorporating Lanyang's local characteristics, such as the water stage, five conical stone hills, and the Turtle Island on the sea. It unwittingly brings Lanyang landmarks into the park. According to ancient legends, the Dongshan River has the Green Dragon and Yellow Dragon protecting the riverbanks. Therefore, the riverbanks are built with pebbles, forming undulating and winding "Dragon Slopes." These Dragon Slopes are inlaid with blue and green, and orange and yellow ceramic tiles. On the steps of the Dragon Slopes, there are interesting mosaic paintings, which are the masterpieces of children in Yilan.

Now, the annual Dragon Boat Festival, International University Rowing Invitation Tournament, and International Children's Festival are all held in the Water Park. During the Chinese Valentine's Day, a magpie bridge is set up, adding a romantic atmosphere. In recent years, the Water Park has become one of the hottest tourist attractions in Taiwan.
