新北市新莊區碧江街20號
The Wenchang Temple in Xinzhuang enshrines Emperor Wenchang. When the Ciyou Palace was rebuilt in the 7th year of Emperor Yongzheng's reign (1729 AD), Emperor Wenchang was enshrined as a companion deity. In the 18th year of Emperor Jiaqing's reign (1813 AD), Cao Rulin, the county magistrate of Xinzhuang, donated and built the Wenchang Temple on the right side behind the Ciyou Palace. Later, in the 1st year of Emperor Guangxu's reign (1875 AD), Chen Shichen, the county magistrate of Menghua, along with gentry members such as Chen Shichen, relocated the temple to its current site. After 121 years, it has undergone eight renovations (no data available to confirm). Due to its development and historical value, and being relatively well-preserved, it is currently listed as a third-class historical site. The Wenchang Temple was the site of the "Xinjiang Branch School of the Taipei National Language Transmission Institute" established during the Xingzheng Public School (24th year of Guangxu, 1898 AD). Before the school was built, it served as a private school where students received their education, holding a status equivalent to a Confucian temple with similar functions. The fact that Xinzhuang had a Wenchang Temple since the Jiaqing era reflects the flourishing local literary culture, and this temple holds significant importance for the development of Xinzhuang's culture. It should be well-maintained and preserved to once again fulfill its role in social education.
