Yamashui Beach is one of the must-visit beaches in Penghu, stretching over 200 meters. Thanks to Penghu’s abundant natural resources, it is less affected by human pollution, and the sand gleams in a beautiful golden hue. Surrounding the beach, vast expanses of lush green ginseng vines grow. Under the sunshine, the combination of the blue sea, verdant vegetation, and golden sand creates a vibrant palette, making it a popular tourist destination. In the past, Yamashui Beach was known by the interesting name “Zhumu Luoshui” (“The Mother Pig Fell into Water”). According to legend, a sow ran onto the beach, and a giant octopus appeared in the sea. After a fierce struggle, the octopus dragged the sow into the water, giving rise to the name. During the Japanese colonial period it was renamed “Zhumu Shui” (“Pig Mother Water”), and only after Taiwan’s restoration of sovereignty did the name change to “Yamashui.” At the entrance of the beach, a large 3D mural is painted on the seawall, incorporating the “Zhumu Luoshui” story. A physical surfboard is embedded into the seawall, elevating the artwork from 3D to 4D. Visitors can stand on the surfboard and take photos with the mural, as if fighting the giant octopus alongside the mother pig—an excellent photo opportunity. [Recommended stay time] 1 hour
