❗ Summit Access - The public restroom and viewing platform will be temporarily closed every Saturday, Sunday, and public holiday starting April 1, 114 AD (2025 AD) due to weather station construction and operational adjustments. We apologize for any inconvenience. ❗ The Cat Lap Mountain Trail entrance is located next to the Fragrance Hotel and connects to the central section of the Ministry of Agriculture's Tea and Beverage Crops Research Substation and the Central Weather Administration's Sun Moon Lake Weather Station, covering approximately 4.6 kilometers total. The trail offers serene surroundings and stunning panoramic views, allowing visitors to enjoy vast Assam red tea fields, cypress forests, and the entire Sun Moon Lake panorama. Upon reaching the summit, one can also glimpse Jiu Fen Er Shan and Jijie Da Shan. The Sun Moon Lake Weather Station is situated at an elevation of 1,020 meters above sea level with outdoor weather instruments. Morning is the ideal time to walk Cat Lap Mountain. Starting at the trailhead, winding through the red tea terraces, with the famous Assam red tea fields bordering the path. The hillside Tea and Beverage Crops Research Substation, nestled against the mountain and facing the lake, is an excellent spot for watching sunrise, sea of clouds, and morning mist over the mountain and lake. The shaded forest path from the Tea Research Substation to the weather observation station is a moderate hike of 3 kilometers, featuring Ke Lan Olive Tree Trail and tall Taiwan fir forests. Along the way, one can hear birdsong and insect sounds. Upon reaching the summit, the view of Jiu Fen Er Shan and Jijie Da Shan offers a complete panorama of Sun Moon Lake. The Tea Research Substation in the mid-hills is a traditional Japanese-style building from the Japanese colonial era. Due to expanded research scope following its renaming to the "Ministry of Agriculture's Tea and Beverage Crops Research Substation (Central Section)" without increasing staff, all branches will no longer accept visits arranged by travel agencies since April 2015. *For individuals wishing to visit the Tea and Beverage Crops Research Station, please contact the designated officer two weeks prior to the visit date and submit a formal application letter on behalf of an organization or unit, specifying the organization name, number of visitors, scheduled date and time, specific items to be observed, intended duration of stay, and contact name with phone number.
