The Dajia Zhenlan Temple is said to have been built in 1730 when an image of the Mazu goddess was brought from the Mazu Ancestral Temple in Meizhou to Taiwan. As the temple gained popularity, a small shrine was built in 1732 in Dajia, Taichung. The shrine was rebuilt into a small temple called "Tianhou Temple" in 1770 and rebuilt again in 1787. It wasn't until then that it was documented in the Qingshui County Annals. The temple has been rebuilt several times by local gentry and renamed "Zhenlan Temple". Every year on the third day of the third lunar month, the temple holds a grand "Mazu pilgrimage" ceremony, which attracts a large following of devotees. Various temples around Taiwan also hold celebrations to welcome Mazu. The Dajia Zhenlan Temple Mazu pilgrimage has a history of several hundred years, primarily aimed at adding spiritual energy to the goddess's image. The massive scale and popularity of the event have garnered attention and research from academic and media circles worldwide. The temple's architecture includes a front hall, rear hall, north and south halls, rooms, and a bell and drum tower. The buildings feature intricate stone carvings and wood雕s of people, flowers, birds, and animals, exuding a vibrant and delicate atmosphere. The main hall enshrines Mazu, while the south hall enshrines the Chaste Mazu. The temple's entrance features imposing stone pillars with fine carvings. The roof is adorned with colorful figurines, flowers, birds, and animals made from clay. The eaves feature large, gold-painted decorations. The main hall's altar is particularly extravagant, with layered carvings and a resplendent, golden shine. The temple has undergone several renovations, making its architecture more stable and magnificent. Although some ancient artifacts have been lost over time, the temple still preserves valuable plaques from the Qianlong and Guangxu periods, which serve as a testament to its historical significance.
