Introduction
The Maokong Recreation Agricultural Area is located in the Wenshan District of Taipei City, specifically in the Zhinanli area. The natural environment within the area is predominantly hilly, and the entire district includes the famous Taipei tourist destination, "Maokong." During the Qing Guangxu period, the Zhang family from Anxi, Fujian, immigrated to Taiwan and settled in this mountainous area, relying on tea cultivation for their livelihood. They passed down their knowledge of tea-related activities, such as tea planting, tea picking, and tea manufacturing, from generation to generation. Today, the lives of local residents in Maokong are still closely tied to tea. The area is renowned for its tea leaf culture, with numerous temples, unique pothole landforms, and several mountain trails, making it an ideal recreational spot for urban residents during holidays. The area boasts rich natural and human resources, which together create a place with immense tourist potential.
Maokong's tea industry has become one of Taiwan's precious local specialty industries. Maokong's unique "Tieguanyin tea" is produced through a special manufacturing process, resulting in a tea with a clear yellow color, a rich and mellow flavor, and a slightly astringent taste with a hint of sweetness. According to the Tea Industry Improvement Arena, the characteristics of Tieguanyin tea include: a curled and plump shape, a fresh and lustrous color, a white frost on the leaf surface, an amber-colored tea, a rich and clear flavor, and a fragrance that lingers. This makes it the only one of its kind in all of Taiwan.
