The bridge in Dongshi District, the Jinmen Bridge, originally only had a gentle stream flowing across the two shores, and residents on both sides had to wade through the water to interact with each other. To ensure the safety of the elderly, children, women, and the general public, the bridge was constructed in 1960 (the 15th year of the Showa era, 1940 CE). At that time, the outbreak of the Pacific War had conscripted all the cement, leaving the local people to use glutinous rice, lime, and black sugar as binding materials. This gave the bridge a highly flexible nature, which allowed it to withstand the 921 earthquake without any damage. Its special construction method and form hold considerable preservation value, especially for ensuring the safety of the local residents.
