高雄市六龜區省道台27甲線,位於新威到六龜公路的6個隧道中間。
Eighteen Arhats Mountain, located along Taiwan Provincial Road 27A in the Liukui District, is situated beside the Gaomei Creek and is composed of more than 40 vertical conical-shaped peaks. The mountains resemble 18 Arhats standing along the roadside, creating a grand and unique landscape that offers a scenery akin to the picturesque karst landscapes of Guilin. Hence, it is also known as "Taiwan's Mini Guilin" and serves as the most beautiful landmark of Liukui. To appreciate the most exquisite view of Eighteen Arhats Mountain, one may follow Provincial Road 28 eastwards from the Xinwei Forest Park, crossing the Gaomei Creek. The best vantage point lies on the east bank of Gaomei Creek along Provincial Road 27. Against the gentle flow of the Gaomei Creek, the harmonious interplay of water and mountains creates a breathtaking scenery of reflections and natural beauty. It is recommended to capture this view at around 3 or 4 a.m., before the sky is fully bright. The subtle light of dawn blends with the mist in the air: the river surface glistens with shimmering waves, while misty mountain mist adds a sense of ever-changing scenery. Due to its mountain shape resembling flames, Eighteen Arhats Mountain is also called "Liukui Fire Mountain," and ranks among the three major fire-shaped mountains in Taiwan along with Miaoli's San yi Fire Mountain and Nantou's Caotun Jiujiu Peak. Dominating the area's geology is the Liukui conglomerate; this unique topography, formed through million years of evolution, features steep cliffs, U-shaped valleys, gorges, and meandering streams, showcasing clear evidence of geologic activities such as orogeny, erosion, and sedimentation. The region therefore functions as a natural geology classroom. To protect its unique landscape, a "Eighteen Arhats Mountain Nature Reserve" has been established here. Within the scenic area, the river valleys of Hongshuixi and Zhujiacaoxi are lush with dense forest and pristine water, offering a prime habitat for numerous species of butterflies and becoming a major site for butterfly watching. Moreover, there is a legend that Eighteen Arhats Mountain has long served as the guardian deity that protects Liukui residents' wealth. It is thus believed that those who work hard in Liukui will eventually accumulate abundance.
