The jar wall is part of the perimeter wall of the residence of Yan Dongyi, a magnate who ran a rice-husking mill and an oil-press. The mansion was built in the Daoguang period; after the great earthquake of the 31st year of Guangxu it was rebuilt, and a section of the jar wall was left standing.
