Penghu Trans-Seabridge, totaling 2,494 meters in length, spans the Howmen Channel between Bai_sha and Ysiyu Islands. The channel is known for its swift currents, with water speeds reportedly reaching 3 meters per second, making it the second most hazardous current in Penghu's waters. During winter, strong northeasterly monsoons create turbulent waves, making navigation challenging. To address the transportation issues for Jyhuanngh Island, construction of the bridge began in 1965 and was completed in 1970. Later, due to severe corrosion and bridge collapse, the land embankment was expanded in 1984, and the newly constructed dual-lane bridge was completed in 1996. From a distance, it resembles a rainbow on the sea, not only possessing touristic value but also ensuring smooth transportation between Ysiyu and Bai_sha. To this day, on the western end of the bridge, the northern coastal area remains with old cement pillars and frames on the Ysiyu side and weathered piers on the Bai_sha side, respectively indicating the historical electricity transmission via overhead high-voltage lines and the bridge's legacy of completion and retirement.
**Dawuoshu Island - A prime location for viewing the Trans-Seabridge**
Dawuoshu Island is situated in the inland sea surrounded by Penghu's Magong, Bai_sha, and Ysiyu Islands, earning the nickname "Pearl of Penghu's Inland Sea." From Dawuoshu, the Trans-Seabridge appears as a magnificent rainbow across the sky, offering panoramic seascapes. The journey takes around 20 minutes by boat from Magong's Chungguang Neighborhood (Houkutan) to reach Dawuoshu, which is the only inhabited island in Penghu's Inland Sea. The name Dawuoshu might originate from its vicinity to Penghu's renowned inner sea fishery, historically known as the "Great Fishery Warehouse." Dawuoshu boasts gently sloping coasts and expansive intertidal zones at low tide, with five large stone fish traps being the most distinctive feature.
