Xinyi Civic Center and Veterans' Village Cultural Park - Sinsi Nan Village

2020-04-17
Siasi Village was a product of the Chinese Civil War and also the first military village in Taipei. Because it was located to the south of the Japanese 44th Ordnance Factory, it was called "Siasi Village." There is a fortress in the park from that time, which was deliberately preserved by the designer. Although it has lost its original function, it is a trace of Siasi Village's historical journey. The park has many exhibition halls and many houses retain their original appearance. The park has also added many cultural and creative elements, and there are many products for sale. Take the MRT to Taipei 101 / World Trade Center Station. After exiting from Gate 2, turn left on Zhuangjing Road and walk about 50 meters to arrive. A building was established by the Taipei City Government Social Bureau as the "Taipei Xinyi Family Center." B building is the Siasi Village Cultural Heritage Memorial Center. It elaborately describes the history of the establishment of the citizens' hall and the history of Siasi Village. It also recreates the village life through exhibits, old photos, documentaries, and other methods. C building is currently leased by Zhongzi Culture Co., Ltd. and named "Good, Qiu." The restaurant mainly serves light meals, including bread, bagels, hamburgers, and coffee drinks. At the same time, it combines the village culture to provide art exhibitions, making it a great place for leisure dining. D building is currently used as a community activity venue for Jingxin Village and is undergoing a site rental process. With the land development of the Xinyi Planning Area and the renovation of the military villages, all the residents of Siasi Village moved out in 1999. The remaining buildings faced the fate of demolition. In response, the community residents and cultural figures initiated a movement to preserve the military village culture and established the Siasi Village Cultural History Studio. After being inspected by the Cultural Heritage Review Committee of the Cultural Bureau, Siasi Village was officially listed as a "Historic Building," and four symmetrical buildings were designated for preservation and planning. Finally, on October 25, 1993, it was unveiled as the Xinyi Citizens' Hall and the Military Village Cultural Park with a new look. The site area is about 4,150 square meters, and the building floor area is about 720 square meters. It coexists with the Taipei Financial Center of Taipei, presenting a diverse urban landscape full of history and modernity. The Xinyi Citizens' Hall is surrounded by the Siasi Village Cultural Park, Jingxin Park, spacious pedestrian plazas, and Xinyi Elementary School. The ample public open spaces provide residents, Taipei citizens, and even guests staying at hotels near the Xinyi District a great place to escape the hustle and bustle and take a leisurely walk. The buildings of this hall are four symmetrical structures of Siasi Village, preserving the unique architectural style of the military village. Siasi Village became a gathering place for the civilian military village culture of the 1950s. The low, old-fashioned buildings contrast sharply with the tall commercial buildings of the Taipei Financial Center, while coexisting with the architectural styles of the past and present of Xinyi District.
