Foreign Buildings on Nantai Street

2017-07-03
台北市中正區延平南路26號
The building at Nanhmen Post Office opposite, is a two-story building with a mixed stone and wood structure. The overall decoration is simple yet not complicated, modest yet not lacking in delicacy, and it is deeply influenced by European classical styles.

The first floor is built with thick stones, forming an elegant arc-shaped colonnade. The colonnade has four columns and three bays, with the arches formed by trapezoidal "kili" stones. The ceiling of the colonnade is made of wood patterns. The second floor and the roof structure are all wooden, covered with a complexly sloped roof, with corrugated cement tiles on the surface. The exterior features a steeply sloped roof, dormer windows, and stone arch columns on the facade, belonging to the style of imitation Renaissance architecture, and it is also the only remaining single-story Western-style shop building from the Japanese occupation period.
