Taipei Industrial School Red Building

2017-07-05
Its predecessor was the Taipei Prefectural Industrial School during the Japanese rule period. It was initially established in 1912, called the Civil Affairs Department of the Governor-General's Office Industrial Training Institute. It was not until 1921 that it was reorganized as a prefectural industrial school. It was the most important industrial school in Taiwan during the Japanese rule period and was considered as the cradle of early industrial talents. It initially had departments such as chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and architecture. The building walls are all made of red bricks, with protruding columns forming a slender facade. The building has two floors inside, and an external corridor connects to other school buildings. The air vents under the window sills are made of cast iron and are inlaid with the school emblem from the industrial school era. This entire building demonstrates a rigorous design spirit through its delicate brickwork. It has historical and cultural value in the history of the university and among the remaining campus buildings from the early 20th century in Taiwan.
