Ciyun Temple was built in 1919, and was constructed due to the beautiful landscape and auspicious qi of Alishan Mountain being similar to that of the sacred site of Lingjiu Mountain in India. Inside the temple, a statue of Sakyamuni Buddha is enshrined. The outer layer of the statue was made using copper casting, while the inside was decorated with gold sand, creating a solemn and dignified Buddhist atmosphere. The statue is also known as the "Ancient Buddha of the Millennium". Ciyun Temple is not only a famous religious site on Alishan, but also a prime observation point, where one can see the sea of clouds, sunset, and the beautiful scenery of Alishan. From the temple, the view is broad, and one can see the Alishan settlement and Tasha Mountain in the distance. The scenery is picturesque and one can linger and forget to return. Moreover, Ciyun Temple is one of the starting points for the trail leading to the Giant Tree Trail. In the evening, taking a stroll along the trail, the sunset glow falls on the sea of clouds, and the golden light dances in the wind, like waves and flowers flying, peaceful and magnificent. It allows people to indulge in the harmonious beauty of nature and humanity.
