Shantou Mountain is located at the 12-kilometer mark of Highway 132 in the Maolin District. It can be seen on the way to Dona Village. It is named after its resemblance to a hundred-step snake coiled around the Zhuokou Stream. Shantou Mountain is a typical meandering landform, originally a loop hill, and is opposite Longtou Mountain. Shantou Mountain is also regarded as a sacred mountain that protects the people of the tribe and is one of the most famous scenic spots in the Maolin area. According to legend, a long time ago, a mother snake and her two baby snakes came here to forage. When the mother snake heard the sound of the rushing river, she thought that the high mountains were going to experience heavy rain and even a flood. She called her children to climb up the tree to avoid the danger, and instructed them to close their eyes and recite a spell, hoping that the son and daughter would transform into an eagle and a purple butterfly, respectively, and fly away from the disaster. It is quite interesting. If you want to explore the appearance of Shantou Mountain, you can take a panoramic view at the Shantou Mountain Observation Deck. It is recommended to spend about 15 minutes here, and you can leisurely enjoy the unique meandering landscape of Shantou Mountain on the observation deck.
