Liao Township Long Red Tea Liao Mayor Black Tea—Rich and Fragrant | Yuchi Red Tea—[Yuchi Red Tea] is located in Yuchi Township, Nantou County. Its red tea industry began developing during the Japanese colonial era. In 1925, Japanese settlers introduced the Assam red tea cultivar from India, planting seeds in the Yuchi area. Because Yuchi Township has a large diurnal temperature range, frequent fog in the morning and evening, and acidic red clay soil, the objective geographic conditions closely resembled those of Assam, the original cultivation region, resulting in a surprisingly successful outcome. Consequently, the Taiwan Governor-General's Office established the "Yuchi Red Tea Experimental Substation" in 1936 to serve as a research center dedicated to introducing and promoting the Assam variety of red tea. The foundation of Yuchi Township’s red tea industry was thus laid.
