During the Tongzhi period, Japanese troops invaded Taiwan. Wu Guangliang was tasked with planning the development and pacification of the indigenous peoples. He personally wrote an inscription on a massive stone by the Zhuowu River at Caoling, Shizhuo, and later sent people to explore the mountains and build the "Baatongguan Ancient Trail" in 1872, which benefited later generations. His remarkable spirit was commemorated with an inscription on a monument, which has been preserved for eternity. The Ministry of the Interior designated this monument as a national historic site. In 2001, the Water Resources Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs provided funding to improve the environment around the monument, beautify the surroundings, and upgrade the drainage facilities. The calligraphy on the monument is vigorous and forceful, with a rich ancient charm. In front of the monument stands the old bridge abutment of the JiJi Bridge, and behind it is Lionhead Mountain. Hikers may stop to appreciate the historic site and pay their respects.
