The county-designated historic site of the old barrier gates reflects the fact that in the past, every street and lane in Lukang had barriers. Only one remains today, located in a small alley named Houche Lane behind Zhongshan Road. This sole surviving barrier gate was built in the 10th year of the Daoguang era (1830 AD). It is about 10 feet tall and 8 feet wide, with the four Chinese characters "Men Ying Hou Che" (門迎後車) inscribed upon it. Despite its enduring沧桑 changes over time, the gate collapsed in 1979 (ROC Year 68) and has since been restored.
