苗栗縣三義鄉廣聲新城88號
The Three-M義 Woodcarving Museum is the only public museum in Taiwan specializing in woodcarving. It was opened on April 9, 1995, and is primarily dedicated to collecting and exhibiting woodcarving art pieces from Taiwan and abroad. In 2003, the museum completed the expansion of its second building, which added spaces for woodcarving teaching, exhibition, collection, and a library. The unique architectural design won the Taiwan Architecture Award that year. The rich collections and facilities enabled the Three-M義 Woodcarving Museum to enter a new era and become an international professional woodcarving museum. The museum's exhibition spaces include the first and second floors, the basement of the main building, and the second, third, and fourth floors of the second building. The exhibitions are divided into nine themes: the origin of carving art, the evolution of Chinese sculpture, the woodcarvings of South Island ethnic groups, the history and development of Three-M義 woodcarving, architectural furniture, temple religion, mixed media, contemporary art exhibitions, and special woodcarving exhibitions. These exhibitions meticulously showcase the beauty of woodcarving, allowing visitors to experience the application and art of woodcarving comprehensively and perfectly. The second floor of the main building showcases Taiwan's most prosperous Three-M義 woodcarving industry and exhibits woodcarvings that people encounter in daily life, such as architecture, furniture, and carving tools. The temple deity area displays exquisite woodcarvings that convey the sincerity of Chinese folk beliefs. In addition to exhibiting the museum's collections, the museum regularly hosts solo exhibitions of woodcarving masters' works and lectures by experts and scholars. It also arranges for carving masters to create works on-site, observation and learning sessions, and woodcarving DIY activities. These activities allow visitors to participate in woodcarving personally, experience the fun of woodcarving, and get closer to woodcarving life and art.
