In New Taipei City’s Jinshan District, the straight, long, undulating road across Huangqing Bridge has earned the nickname “Wave Avenue” from locals. Huangqing Road, Jinshan’s liveliest thoroughfare, rises and falls like a dance and is one of the signature segments of the Wan-Jin-Shi Marathon. Along the way you pass Jinshan Qingshui Farmland, where you can visit the eco-friendly Little Crane Base and admire the spectacular blooms of peony lotuses—an extraordinary Jinshan sight. Around Qingshui Farmland, Huangqing Bridge, and the 40.5 km mark of Provincial Highway 2, the air is lightly perfumed with the scent of these flowers. Peony lotuses have dozens to over a hundred petals; their large, peony-like blossoms give them their name. Jinshan’s peony-lotus season runs from mid-June to August. For viewing or for buying lotus flowers and lotus-seed products, come in the morning: the blooms open at dawn, morning dew makes them more photogenic, and they are at their most gorgeous.
