The Golden Shower Tree, officially named the Golden Chain Flower, blooms from May to June. In early summer, it is laden with cascades of golden-yellow blossoms that sway in the breeze. Each bloom resembles a sweet-pea flower; a single blossom looks like a small yellow butterfly, and a full chain can reach about twenty centimeters in length. When the petals drift earthward they fall like rain, earning the tree its nickname “Golden Rain.” When sunlight strikes, the whole canopy glitters; golden blossoms stand against an azure sky, displaying their beauty to the fullest. Recommended viewing spots: 1. East Luo River left bank, from the五分車 railway bridge to the Dai-ma Bridge (border of Erlin and Xihu) A 1.5 km riverside path along the old Xihu五分車 line holds nearly 300 Golden Shower Trees. From May to June their branches hang with golden chains; the south wind sends petals dancing across the track like a shower of gold, making this one of Changhua’s hidden floral gems. 2. Changhua HSR Station – Section 1 of Station Road, “Three-Rails Water-bike Path” Golden petals swirl on the wind, carpeting the bike path in a romantic golden rain.
