The Old Caoling Tunnel Bikeway is about 20 km round-trip and takes roughly two hours by bike. Starting at Fulong Station, the route offers views of Turtle Island, a continuous coastline, and towering cliffs—an essential spot for enjoying the fusion of mountain and sea. Along the way you’ll pass through the Old Caoling Tunnel, crossing the border between New Taipei City and Yilan. Emerging from the cool, quiet tunnel feels like stepping into the world of “Spirited Away,” with the vast ocean suddenly spread out ahead. The ride also threads through two almost-hidden fishing villages—Makang and Mao’ao—where time seems to stand still. Bike-rental shops line both sides of Fulong Station; if you want to complete the full loop, rent an e-bike here so you won’t run out of energy. In summer, bring sunscreen, a mask, and plenty of water.
