From Zhutou to Gongzhen, the 76-hectare mangrove forest, is the world's largest and northernmost distribution of mangroves. Mangroves, due to their reddish-brown bark and wood, are mainly found in tropical and subtropical estuaries and coastlines. The mangroves in this area are all Kandelia candel, a viviparous evergreen tree, named for its pencil-like shape. After getting off at the MRT Hongshulin Station, follow the 50th alley of Waizongzhen to enter the mangrove swamp area, where fiddler crabs and mudskippers thrive. From mid-September to mid-March, herons and egrets can be seen, making it a rich and convenient natural classroom. Walking along the wooden plank road into the mangrove nature reserve, you can see the Kandelia candel, which has soil consolidation and national security functions, growing in the wetlands of the estuary area. Fiddler crabs and mudskippers, as well as other wetland creatures, are born in the intertidal zone, and this is also a nationally protected bird sanctuary, with over 20 rare species to observe, attracting many ecologists and photographers. However, when visiting, please be careful not to litter, as this can disrupt the local ecological balance.
