Fuyang Natural Ecological Park

2024-04-11
Fuyang Natural Ecological Park is just a 5-minute walk from the Lin Guang MRT Station. From the Japanese occupation period until 1988 (the 77th year of the Republic of China), it was a military ammunition depot, and later became a park area. The entire valley has maintained almost the same ecological landscape as it was over a hundred years ago. The park is rich in forest scenery, with the sounds of insects and birds, preserving natural resources such as low-altitude forests and streams. It is a rare ecological paradise in the city. Among them, the natural succession area, butterfly viewing area, the red giant flying squirrel observation area, and the Taipei tree frog observation area have 331 species of plants, including fragrant nan, acacia, white banyan, and blood maple, as well as 5,000 trees, and animals such as tree frogs, butterflies, and red giant flying squirrels. The surrounding military villages, preserved bunkers, culverts, and weathered stone steps reveal the hard work of soldiers who carved them one by one. Being there feels like a spiritual connection with the previous generation. Fuyang Natural Ecological Park is located at the end of Fuyang Street in the Da'an District of Taipei City, covering an area of 3.8 hectares. Since the Japanese occupation period, the area was used as an ammunition depot. After the recovery, it was guarded by the army, and until the 77th year of the Republic of China, the troops were withdrawn. During this time, the local village head and residents actively advocated to the Ministry of National Defense to transform the site into a park. In the 89th year of the Republic of China, the city government announced the site as a park area and gradually handled the land allocation matters. From the 94th to 95th year of the Republic of China, the Bureau of Public Works and Street Lighting Engineering Management carried out the planning and construction of the new park. Due to the long-term military control that has isolated human interference, the park is rich in forest scenery, with the sounds of insects and birds, preserving natural resources such as low altitude forests and streams that are rarely seen in the city. In order to protect the ecological resources in the base and further create a better habitat environment, the park office has commissioned the Department of Life Sciences at National Chung Hsing University to conduct a four-year survey and monitoring of the environmental resources in the base since the 93rd year of the Republic of China, in order to understand the distribution of biological species in the base, and to film ecological documentary videos. So far, the ecological documentary video of 20 minutes has been completed, and a 5-minute online version has been specially condensed for the public to enjoy the natural ecological beauty of the park online. Based on the ecological monitoring results and recommendations from the 93rd year of the Republic of China, the park office has used them as the basis for the planning and design and operation management strategy of the park. The park is planned to have eight major theme areas, including: the entrance interpretation area, ecological waterway area, military culvert heritage area, natural ecological succession area, butterfly viewing area, secondary forest scenery observation area, wetland ecological observation area, and the "Chanting Cicadas" leisure area.
