Chen Dexing's Western-style house is located in the less populated Bishan village. The house is situated at the entrance of the village, making it very noticeable. Built in 1926, it is considered one of Jinmen's early Western-style buildings. Although its exterior appears somewhat dilapidated, the overall grandeur of its past can still be seen. The front of the house is carved with rats, goldfish, and bananas. The first two symbolize having many descendants, while the banana, which sounds like "zhao" in the Hokkien dialect, implies attracting wealth. (Photo source: Zheng Bizhen)
