Founded in 1982 as Tien Mao Co., Ltd. Cheng-long Plant, the facility was renamed Hsiang Yi Food Co., Ltd. in January 2003, specializing in rice-vermicelli production. Lin Ming-hsing and his wife, Li Chiu-hsia, built the factory from the ground up. Under the guidance of Kouhu Farmers’ Association rice-marketing class, Mrs. Li spearheaded agricultural transformation, ceaselessly researching and developing new products, and in 1994 she was honored with the National Top Ten Outstanding Farm Women “Shen Nung Award.” Thanks to first-rate processing techniques and rigorous quality control, the company won the favor of Japanese buyers and opened an export market to Japan, creating additional employment opportunities for local women.
To promote leisure and tourism, the plant has joined forces with the Jinhu Leisure Farm Area Visitor Center to design a series of industrial-experience activities, including hands-on creative rice-vermicelli cooking for elementary and secondary school field trips. Advance reservation is required.
