Since 1949, Kinmen, a battlefield, has, in order to achieve the tactical goal of "preserving combat power underground and demonstrating firepower on the ground," started in 1968 to construct a large number of underground tunnels, utilizing the geological conditions of Kinmen granite. The Jincheng Civil Defense Tunnel is one of them. This tunnel is connected through an underground system to important institutions such as the Kinmen Committee, the Kinmen County Government, the Kinmen Investigation Office, the Kinmen County Civil Defense Corps, the Land Bank, the waterworks, the Kinmen Electric Company, the Jincheng Railway Station, the Kinmen Post Office, etc., creating a well-organized war preparation network underground. Now that the warfare has passed, the Jincheng Civil Defense Tunnel has become a significant wartime relic with educational value. Free guided tours are available every day, allowing visitors to gain deeper understanding of the tense times of warfare. On the second floor, there is a thematic display of the "Call to Arms for Kinmen Veterans" at the tunnel entrance. This display is interactive.
