Dakeng Scenic Area ~ Mountain Trail Guide
Dakeng Scenic Area is an important recreational space for the spiritual relaxation of Taichung citizens, a place for hikers to exercise, and a popular tourist attraction in central Taiwan. On ordinary days or holidays, it is common to see groups of friends and families enjoying the scenery together, making it a backyard shared by the people of Taichung. The most distinctive feature of the area is its 14 mountain trails. Trails 1 to 8 were opened in the early 1970s, constructed according to the natural terrain of Dakeng Mountain and its intersecting streams, with the highest elevation being 859 meters at Touzyan Mountain. Trail 9 was opened in December 2005, Trail 10 was completed in March 2008, and Trail 9-1 was completed in November 2013. Trails 5 and 5-1 are the longest, with Trail 5 being approximately 1.4 kilometers and Trail 5-1 being approximately 1.6 kilometers, making them ideal for hikers who enjoy mountain trekking.
Trailhead: From Zhongxingling, head straight toward Xiezhong Street (Mushroom Street) for about 1.5 kilometers to No. 257-1 Xiezhong Street. Follow the signs and turn right into the side lane to reach the trailhead.
Special Feature: This trail connects to the endpoints of Trails 1 to 4. Along the way, there are viewpoints with good visibility, including Heisong Pavilion, Gaofeng Pavilion, and the summit of Touzyan Mountain. On clear days, you can overlook the Taichung city area and the Dali Plateau.
