Mount Taowu is located in the center of Kinmen Island. Although its elevation is only 253 meters, it is the highest mountain in Kinmen. Mount Taowu is an important memorial site of the August 23rd Artillery Battle. In addition to the opportunity for mountain climbing and sightseeing, there are also many cultural and historical attractions on the mountain, such as "Never Forget the State of Jiu" and Haiyin Temple, which are characteristic attractions in Kinmen. There are four routes to climb Mount Taowu: the front mountain, the back mountain, the Cai Cuo Ancient Trail, and the Doumen Ancient Trail. The front mountain refers to the Yuzhang Road on the north side of the Taowu Mountain Cemetery, while the back mountain is at the end of Yuzhang Road near the Pingdong Cultural and Sports Center. Most people start their climb from the flat and easy-to-traverse Yuzhang Road on the front mountain. The Doumen and Cai Cuo Ancient Trails are steeper and more challenging. The round-trip hiking distance of Mount Taowu takes about 2 hours, but considering the numerous historical sites and scenic spots along the way, it is recommended to plan for half a day. The Twelve Wonders of Mount Taowu include: the Moon-Soaking Pool, the Crab Eye Spring, the Cloud-Sleeping Stone, the Tortoise-Stepping Stone, the Reflection Tower, the Jade Table, the Ancient Stone Chamber, the Stone Gate Pass, the Thousand-Zhang Wall, the Panoramic Pavilion, the Prostrate Pine, and the Cloud-Stepping Stairs. During the Ming Dynasty, Kinmen was known for its flourishing literary culture, and the inscriptions by literati and scholars made it a must-visit destination for scholars and literati, which spread the fame of the Twelve Wonders of Mount Taowu. The place where the Prince of Pingping watched troops and played Go is the best spot for panoramic views on the entire Kinmen Island.
