Yanping Riverfront Park

2017-07-04
台北市士林區大同區忠孝橋至延平北路9段中洲抽水站之間堤外高灘地
The Yanping Riverside Park in Taipei is located between the Zhongxiao Bridge and the 9th section of Yanping North Road's Zhongzhou Pumping Station, on the outer embankment. This area was once a recreational spot for Taipei residents in the 1950s. Yanping Riverside Park is near the Zhongxiao Bridge to the end of Minsheng West Road, with a wide area. Entering from the end of Nanjing West Road (No. 4), you can see a large area of dense trees, green grass, and shaded large trees. This place has been the backyard garden for the residents of the Datong District since ancient times. In the early morning, the square is often filled with grandmothers dancing the folk dance and elderly people walking or practicing tai chi. Entering from the end of Nanjing West Road (No. 4), there is a "Yanping Temple," which is still a gathering place for the local elders. The plaque on the temple is inscribed with the "Yiji Year of the Pig" (estimated to be around 1905) and the temple's main hall has an ancient and vivid image of the Tiger God, which seems to have witnessed the rise and fall of the area. The end of Minsheng West Road (No. 5) has a water gate, outside of which is the Datongcheng Wharf. As soon as you enter the water gate, you can see colorful Chinese sailboats, elegant arched bridges, and a blue highway ferry dock. There are currently ferries that allow you to take a water route to Guandu or Balin, experiencing a different atmosphere from the land route. The Datongcheng Wharf (No. 5 water gate) has a blue highway ferry dock, a coffee plaza, and Chinese sailboats. Riding a bicycle along the river, you can enjoy the scenery of Yangming Mountain and the sunset on the Tamsui River. In contrast to the traffic flowing on the large bridges over the river, the leisurely scene here is particularly rare. Riders can also visit nearby cultural sites, including Datongcheng, Dihua Street, Xiahai City God Temple, Taipei Confucius Temple, Dalongdong Baoan Temple, and Yongle Market. You can get a glimpse of the former prosperity of Datongcheng.
