Shan Zhu Ku Ecological Park is a park that has been restored from the landfill area of the Shan Zhu Ku Sanitary Landfill in Nangang. It was opened on October 27, 2013, with an area of 21 hectares, making it the largest green space in the Nangang district, and also a great place for citizens to relax. It has injected new vitality into Nangang.
The Shan Zhu Ku Sanitary Landfill is located in the Shan Zhu Ku Valley at the southeast corner of Nangang District, bordering the Shenkeng District of New Taipei City, hence the name. It is the second standard sanitary landfill in Taipei City, covering an area of about 65 hectares, with a landfill area of 30 hectares and a capacity of about 6.17 million cubic meters. Of the landfill area, 21 hectares have been completed, and through the method of vegetation and ecological restoration, it has been transformed into green space. The landscape is quite different from the original landfill, and it has the poetic atmosphere of the Tang Dynasty poet Liu Zongyuan's verse, "The sound of oars echoes, and the mountains and waters turn green." Therefore, it is named "Shan Zhu Ku Ecological Park."
The Shan Zhu Ku Ecological Park has many facilities built from the existing abandoned facilities within the site, and interactive and educational facilities have been set up. In addition, every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., children's toys (such as high stilts, iron rings, and spinning tops) and bicycles are available for free borrowing. The open space is also an ideal place for flying kites. The observation deck within the park allows a panoramic view of the Nangang city area and the hills of Neihu during the day, and at night, it offers a beautiful view of the traffic on the No. 3 and No. 5 highways. It is the best place for the whole family to get close to nature and experience the ecosystem.
