Wenchang Palace

2024-04-11
台北市中山區民生西路45巷9號
The statue of Wenchang Emperor at Wenchang Temple originated from a Chinese merchant who came to Taiwan to do business during the Japanese rule. He brought the statue with him. The merchant used to worship it every day. Later, after he failed in his business and lost his enthusiasm for worshipping gods and Buddha, he temporarily placed the statue in a forest. One evening, a woman accidentally discovered it, not knowing what deity it was. She then invited several enthusiastic people to bring it back. Among them, an old man believed it was the Wenchang Emperor, who is in charge of people's academic achievements. Therefore, they built a small temple in the 45th Lane of Minsheng Road to enshrine and worship it. Later, many believers came to pay homage and pray, and their wishes were often fulfilled, especially those who prayed for academic success.

It is the only important temple in the area that enshrines the Wenchang Emperor. The temple is very prosperous, and during the exam season, many young students come to pay homage and pray for academic success, and their wishes are often fulfilled. (Source: Wenchang Temple Website)
