Hidden in Shiding Old Street, Shiding District, New Taipei City, is a one-of-a-kind sock-doll boutique. A giant doll at the entrance grabs every passer-by’s eye; step inside the playful shop and you’ll find rows of adorable creatures—all sewn from socks. Each unique creation carries its own story and comes with both a warranty and a birth certificate. Owner Lin Shu-fang used to be an elementary-school teacher; after falling in love with sock dolls, she quit her job to devote herself to the craft, bringing youth and vitality to this quiet mountain town. Visitors can also DIY their own sock baby: pick your favorite sock pattern, follow the patient guidance of the teacher, and stitch away. Who would have thought everyday hosiery could turn into such endearing dolls? Making one yourself makes it even more special.
